I once interviewed a Sales Rep for my business and when I asked him if he believed in the product he stared at me blankly. “What product? I can sell anything.” I was not surprised, reading his CV that he had been jumping from one sales job to the next. After a lot of questioning he admited that he was looking for that “one killer product” but couldn’t find it. His sales were dismal.
His core problem, it turned out, was that he didn’t care whether he believed in his product or not. He hadn’t gone to study other successful sales people. For him it was all about the numbers. Numbers are important, to be sure. But you also need to believe in what you sell.
I simply won’t sell anything unless I believe in it. Neither should you. Plain and Simple. If you’re selling something you don’t believe in, get out now! Before you not only lose the Game of Sales, but your reputation too.
Before you even start selling your product, you need to evaluate it. Believe in it 100%. Know that your product will change the lives of those who buy it for good. Know that they are better off.
If you don’t believe that – find something you do believe in. It’s as simple as that.
