I should be sick more often…

What a weird week. Really. I am half delirious thanks to all the flu medication. It’s a rather disturbing feeling to walk around in a type of Winter Wonderland. Maybe I am a bit like Alice down the Rabbit Hole. Which has me thinking …

The first time I ever read Alice in Wonderland I was 23 years old. I don’t know why I never read it before that, but I was house-sitting and they had a copy on the shelf. Interesting story. And it has lead me to believe there are two kinds of people in the world:

1. You have people who are so out of place that they feel like they’ve just fallen down the rabbit hole. Take the World Economy and the US elections as an example. My goodness but it seems like the Yanks are waking up to a reality … they’re part of a Global Economy. Life is more than just the World Series and the Superbowl. Shame.

2. There’s the second group of people – those that actually LIVE in the rabbit hole. This Wonderland – Where the strangest things are possible and nothing is normal. The nice thing about living in the Wonderland is that you can change the rules a little to suit you. (but not so much that you get locked up.)

Perhaps you feel a little out of place – especially when it comes to Internet Marketing. To be honest, I cannot think of a more fun and exciting way to live. I can’t even imagine life inside of a normal job (quit my normal job in 2001 and my part-time lecturing post at the University in 2006)

If you wanna learn how to do it, then you need to be at my next seminar! Check out www.webexposure.co.za/buildyourbusiness/ for dates and venues.

Because life is ultimately more fun when you don’t have to worry about paying the bills.

OK, I have the flu. I really feel terrible. Especially because it is an amazing day today. My bedroom opens up with a view of Table Mountain and the ocean … and I’d rather be surfing with mates than lying in bed feeling sorry for myself.

But I thought I should tell you what just happened: I got paid US$505 (R4120.79) while I was sick. (this is towards my mac-mini fund)

I’ve been reading a few comments in business forums lately, about how it’s impossible to have an internet business and make money. Well boo-hoo to you.

OK, I feel like trash, but I thought I should at least let you know that if you’re building an Internet Business, don’t give up!!! So I’m back to bed … maybe I’ll wake up with another R4000!

Why do banks still close at 3:30pm?

So this week I got an affiliate cheque. Nice. I love those. Extra couple of dollars are always fun and I’m saving up all my US Dollars to buy myself a mac-mini for my plasma TV. I still have a looooong way to go, but hey! At least I’m having fun.

So I pop down to the bank to deposit the cheque (got my passport, ID book, proof of residence and proof of sanity – God Bless FICA) only to see they close at 3:30pm – STILL. Now look, I understand back in the old days before computers, the tellers had to add up their books and takings, make sure everything balanced, etc – but HELLO? This is 2008 for heavens sake. Surely we have computers who can handle this?

And really – banks have a lot to learn when it comes to looking after customers. My bank now charges 50c to send an email confirmation of a transaction. At what cost to them? ZIP. Add it up. Let’s say I do an average 20 transactions a month … R10 from me … over how many clients? Personally I think it’s a sick, sick strategy.

In the old days banking was a revered institution. It’s job was to protect your money from robbers; better keeping it in the bank than under the bed. So, the way I see it … a whole bunch of these robbers decided to get together and form their own bank.

And I no longer have faith in this Competitions Board doing an investigation on bank charges. They promised us they would address the rip-off. So, they fine banks and the banks just raise the fees to pay the fine.

OK, enough complaining … for now :-)
