Changing Servers is a little like changing diapers

If you’re a regular visitor to freetips.co.za you may notice things are looking a little differently. I first thought I should compare it to changing house…you know, a few boxes lying all over the place until you figure out where things should go.

But I think a more apt description is to compare it to changing diapers. The main reason a person changes diapers is because baby is a little stinky and pooped all over the place. My blog is my baby (which sadly gets left alone to fend for itself far too often).

It was hosted in the UK on a server that just didn’t cope and there was more and more poop all over the show. So I realised I needed to change the diapers, get rid of some unwanted poop and clean up a little.

Keep an eye on the blog. As I figure my way out around the blog I’m sure you’ll appreciate the changes.

CNN takes on Ashton Kutcher

OK, so I don’t know exactly how this happened but it seems Ashton Kutcher challenged CNN to be the first person with 1 million followers on social media micro-site, Twitter.com

It’s something interesting to follow, because here is a (albeit famous) ordinary person who could potentially have a bigger audience than CNN. It’s old-school versus new media … and it’s very, very interesting.

We all know CNN – the giant news agency that’s been around for years. Access to thousands of news reporters all over the world with updates regularly on their 20th century looking website.

In steps Twitter.com where every user becomes a news agent. Every person has a voice. And everyone has the ability to be their own broadcaster.

The world is changing fast … and those who don’t keep up won’t just fall behind, they’ll be relegated to history.

It’s not what you know …

They say it’s not what you know … it’s who you know … but I think it’s also what you know. It doesn’t matter if you know the right people if you don’t have anything to contribute to the collective. Now I’m sounding like the Borg. Woops … let me explain…

I have been an Internet Marketer since 2002. I love Internet Marketing. I love it, live it, breathe it. To me it’s simply the most exciting part of being alive in the 21st century because all these cool toys allow me to do things.

This week I got to follow a real dinkum Astronaught as he prepares to leave on some or other mission. Today he told me (and 47 000 other people) that he needed to have his nose checked for bacteria before heading into space. Talk about nasty space-bugs. What a movie!

I also got to listen to Barack Obama (sent me a message to my cellphone) and Helen Zille and a few of my own personal friends. I got to find out that some guy called DChetty (who sadly works for MWEB) also enjoys driving an Audi (a new passion in my life).

I get to do a lot of things in the 21st century. I get to make contact with all these amazing people. 200 years ago I, as a peasant, would have had no chance to polish their shoes. Then again 200 years ago no one would think of going into space (what’s bacteria) or a black president in America or even a white woman leading the opposition party in government.

The magic of course is using Twitter … and having something useful to say … which isn’t really that hard because as long as you have something interesting to say, join a conversation, you’ll find more and more people listening to you.

So it’s not just who you know … it’s also who you don’t know and what you do know. It makes life a whole lot more interesting, don’t you think?
