Are you a Late Night Operator?

It’s 1:30am over here in Sunny South Africa. Well, not now, since now it’s 90 minutes past midnight and we’re certainly not that far South as to have 6 month days!

I’m sitting at my desk doing all sorts of bits and pieces for my clients when I thought about a meeting I had this morning with a new prospective client. She told me that she is also most productive at night.

Mmmh. Now I ask myself, are most entrepeneurs productive at night? And what is it during the day that makes you unproductive, and during the night that makes me productive?

For one, at night I don’t have skype/googletalk/MSN/mirc/email/phonecalls/sms/twitter/whatsapp bothering me (yes I have all those options available during the day!)

Also, it’s real quiet in the area – I can pretty much only hear the waves crashing on the shore – and that gives my mind time to think. And in my line of business I do need to be creative.

So are you a day person or a night person?

I’m hugely productive at night, the tweet stream slows down, the text messages stop, no phone calls happen and the general buzz seizes and that’s when concentration levels increase I guess. I also find myself being far more innovative in the evenings, my entrepreneurial side kicks in big time.

I’ve successfully taught myself how to work hard during the day, which I’m really pleased about, but I’m far more innovative in the later hours of the night!

Hi Chris, thanks for popping in!

I am definitely finding the adjustment to work during the day very difficult, even though I know it’s important for me…

I suppose the trick is to take it a step at a time, and not try and do it too quickly!
