From the good old days of iPhone 2G (version 1) everyone has been complaining that Apple doesn’t multitask. I absolutely agree with the sentiment. I’ve been using an iPhone for 3 years now and have “adapted” but there are still days when I wish I could minimise an app, like a Skype conversation, while I quickly browse a site or check an email.

Secondly the new camera is finally 5 megapixel. With a flash. And that is plain brilliant. Because my old 2G only had a 2Megapixel camera. And it looked like I was going blind ans squidgy when I took photos.

The added bonus is that it now has a front camera too! Which means that video-calling is now back on the table.

iOS4 will also be made available to 3GS users (like me) so I’ll receive many of the benefits of the iPhone 4 (well, as much as my hardware can handle).

It’s slightly delayed by the Volcano in Iceland, but I am patient!

Since January 2007 I have been using Apple Mac. I am still using the original Macbook I bought back then and have never needed to format it. It has no anti-virus on it … it just works … beautifully. Since then I’ve added another 3 macs and two iPhones to my collection of Apple Products. It’s beautiful and I love it. The integration into my office is awesome.

There are, however, a few hitches:

1. Most importantly, my accounting software, Softline Pastel, does not support mac in any form. I need to have a windows enabled computer to run it. Now, I can run a dualboot option … or even a virtual machine on my macbook, but there’s a secondary problem:

2. None of my printers (I have 3) will work on my macbook. This is because I bought them all before I had any macs. Otherwise I would have bought a printer that supports OSX (most of them do now, anyway). As I upgrade the hardware, I’ll move things around a little.

Of course, having a PC can be useful. It serves as a data-server for the office and a print-server and when the accountant is here she can merrily hum along while playing on Pastel.

But then, yesterday, disaster struck. I got taken out by a trojan who installed some crappy software on my PC demanding $40 to uninstall itself. I have a business to run, and actually would have paid the $40 … if it wasn’t for the fact that it finally killed Milamber (the name of my PC).

So here I am … blogging on my new Windows 7 machine … I feel violated.

I think this is one of the nicest features of the iPhone and I’ve been bitterly disappointed that it has not been available. the basic premise is that instead of listening to all your voices (normal 121) I can actually SEE who called me, and choose who to listen to. This feature will cost R10.00 per month, which is a little disappointing. I really don’t see why Vodacom needs to charge for a service like this.

Apparently, as an iPhone user, simply SMS VVM ON to switch it on or VVM OFF to turn it off again. I’ve given it a shot and keep getting error messages, so I’ll see what Vodacom Help can do for me.

And because I’m a total Poodle, I love toys and gadgets and things that are shiny.

So for the last few months there has been a lot of talk about the Apple Tablet, or what the blogosphere is calling the iSlate – it’s supposed to be Apple’s new innovation.

And you can’t believe how many people are already saving up for a product that doesn’t even exist yet! They don’t even know what it’s called – they just want one. Sometimes I think Apple must embed drugs into the plastic of their goodies, that makes users totally addicted to their product. But I cannot think of any other company that has such a loyal following. Not even Google’s Android phone drummed up as much excitement.

Most Microsoft/PC users are stuck in it because they insist on the price. Some people I know refuse to use Apple because they don’t want to be Evangelists.

I’m still not sure about my feelings on the iSlate. While I think the iPhone is an awesome piece of technology, I’m not sure of my feelings of an expanded version posing as a tablet. The PC-Tablets were, in my opinion, a complete flop. They were highly overpriced and very buggy. Sure, technology has moved along nicely and Apple is sure to surprise, but I’ll reserve judgement on the product.

What does intrigue me is the position that apple has found itself in. Since the launch of the iPod it has such a loyal following and every blog will talk about them. Who needs FTC regulations, right? I think everyone should want to be in that position!

Of course, I had to import an iPhone 1.1.2 from the US and have it jailbroken. There are some distinct disadvantages to using a jailbroken phone. Firstly, you have no access to the itunes store, so you can download any cool apps. And secondly you have to be so careful of bricking the phone. I did it twice to mine!

So yesterday I finally got an iPhone 3GS as I qualified for a free upgrade on my cellphone contract. What a difference! Yes, Yes, call me a late-adopter … but this 3GS is amazing! It’s incredibly fast compared to the iPhone 1.1.2 – the app-store is genius.

My faith in Apple is still unwaivering.

I’ve been wanting to run one for a while now and have finally decided to work with a company to run one. We are going to give away a free Apple Macbook to one lucky reader who asks for an insurance quote.

I have decided to use twitter to run it virally and see what happens. So, it launched at 9:34pm on Monday 10 August 2009. Let’s see what happens!
