First National Bank rises to my challenge!

Today I am truly humbled by my bank. I have always been a big supporter of First National Bank. Their bank fees are low, their service is incredible and their online community is very helpful. But today they have blown me out of the water.

It all started when I made a donation this morning of 14 pairs of shoes to the BobsForGood foundation. It’s an incredible charity, set up and run by Bob Skinstad, to give shoes to under-privileged children. Incredibly, there are more than 7 million children in South Africa who have never owned their own shoes.

After my donation, I decided to challenge First National Bank to match my donation. Here’s my tweet:

A while later, this is the response I got from Michael Jordaan, the CEO of First National Bank:

Unbelievable! Who ever said twitter was useless? Ha! This is such an amazing opportunity to see the lives of 2300 (plus my 14) lives changed! I am incredibly excited. Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think that this would happen!

Well done to everyone at First National Bank – from one very humbled client.

Do you Buzz?

The last two products released by Google have been complete flops in my personal opinion.

Firstly, there’s Google Wave – which was meant to completely redefine the way we collaborate and work on projects together. There was the big hype, the exclusivity and the total need to get an invite and now … Blam! Splat! I don’t know anyone who has asked me for my Wave details to work on a Project.

And then there is Google Buzz – Google’s answer (if any) to the wonderful world of Twitter. No Character Limits is supposed to be the big appeal but for once, I think, Google was the Midget trying to squash the Giant. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to log into Gmail to read my Buzz. I already have to keep an eye on my two blogs, facebook and twitter.

I don’t know how much Google spent on developing Google Buzz but I think they ignored the first rule of product launch: Market Research. Social Medialites just don’t need another platform – not yet, anyway.

So … the Big Question: Do you Buzz?

P.S. I’m on twitter: www.twitter.com/tonyseifart

I’ve been watching online trends for a while and have noticed the increase in running online competitions.

I’ve been wanting to run one for a while now and have finally decided to work with a company to run one. We are going to give away a free Apple Macbook to one lucky reader who asks for an insurance quote.

I have decided to use twitter to run it virally and see what happens. So, it launched at 9:34pm on Monday 10 August 2009. Let’s see what happens!

To enter the competition, visit www.twitterland.co.za/we-insure/

And let me know what you think!
